This is a historical, political and legal study of the Shan al-Arab dispute between the government of Iran and the Republic of Iraq, a dispute which has not received the international attention it deserves, while it is a perpetual threat to peace in this area of the Middle East. The Iranian government claims that the Shaft al- Arab is a border ever between the two states and, being a navigable river, it should be divided between Iraq and Iran according to the Thalweg line. This claim has always been unacceptable to Iraq, and not in accordance its the historical facts. Dr Khalid al- Izzi has attempted to study this dispute as objectively s possible, relying upon Iraqi as well as Iranian sources. During his time in Cairo he wrote a several books. Dr. Magmumi's book records his memories about Anatolia and Syria. It was translated from Ottoman to Turkish by Cahit Kayra and published in 2001. According to Kayra, Dr. Magmumi (1860?-1931) was on the staff of Bongowsky, who was in charge of the Ottoman Health Organization to fight against the cholera epidemic. He stayed there until the end of November and afterwards visited the settlements in the vicinity (Bandirma, Erdek, Balikesir, Edremit and Burhaniye/ Kemer) and their surrounding villages. New Turkish Paperback. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). Edition in Turkish. 208 p. The daughter of a prominent Palestinian father and a sophisticated Lebanese mother, Najla Said grew up in New York City, confused and conflicted about her cultural background and identity. Said knew that her parents identified deeply with their homelands, but growing up in a Manhattan world that was defined largely by class and conformity, she felt unsure about who she was supposed to be, and was often in denial of the differences she sensed between her family and those around her. The fact that her father was the famous intellectual and outspoken Palestinian advocate Edward Said only made things more complicated. She may have been born a Palestinian Lebanese American, but in Said's mind she grew up first as a WASP, having been baptized Episcopalian in Boston and attending the wealthy Upper East Side girls' school Chapin, then as a teenage Jew, essentially denying her true roots, even to herself-until, ultimately, the psychological toll of all this self-hatred began to threaten her health.
