Oblong octavo. A set of 12 plates contained in original portfolio, lettered and illustrated. Each plate is a tinted line-drawn illustration printed from at least 2 blocks. A list of captions, both in English and Hebrew, identifies the view on each plate. In about fine condition. ~ First edition. The quality of the plates is very high. Printed by the students at the Hadassah Apprentice School of Printing in Jerusalem. The portfolio contains views of Jerusalem and environs, 13 at all including the cover illustration. Curt Singer, painter, educated in Hamburg, Berlin, and Paris. Born in 1905 in Czechoslovakia he immigrated in 1935 to Israel where he soon establishe himself as a painter. Died in 1989.

This full translation of the 'Mejelle' was made by C.A.Hooper - Gilchrist Memorial Scholar in Turkish and Ouseley Memorial Scholar in Arabic in the University of London, who also wrote a short introduction to a more detailed study of the 'Mejelle'. 220x140mm. RARE! This book combines the two 5698 (1937/38) German issues of the semiannual periodical "WIZO Revue" published by the WIZO-headquarters in London. The issues include articles on social or economical topics concerning Israel and 7 b&w photographic plates documenting the activities of the Women's International Zionist Organization. One plate shows a portrait of one of the staff members of WIZO, Anna Jaffe, who passed away shortly before the issue was printed. This book is made especially notable by forewords written by WIZO-founders, among them Vera Weizmann, the wife of Chaim Weizmann. 188x240mm. [48]+[48] pages. Rebound marbled board Hardcover.
