8vo., First Edition, with a portrait frontispiece and front endpaper maps, endpapers lightly spotted; black cloth, backstrip lettered in silver, a good, firm copy in the dustwrapper, the latter mildly frayed and creased at edges. One of the earliest escape narratives. The author was captured near Tobruk whilst commanding 5th New Zealand Infantry Brigade and placed in Campo 12 near Florence. During his captivity he shared quarters with VC holders Neame and Carton de Wiart whose exploits he recorded in detail. Hargest was one of the highest ranking Allied escapers on WWII. After a successful home run he returned to Europe on D-Day with 50th (Northumbrian) Division to be killed in action two months later. Enser, p.149; Mulholland & Jordan, H28.

Fergusson's vividly-written autobiography covers his time as ADC to Wavell, his service in Palestine, Turkey and Syria, followed by Tobruk and (arguably his finest hour) the dramatic ordeal of Wingate's campaigns in Burma. Storia della Brigata Sicilia, costituita il 16 aprile 1861 in seguito all'annessione delle province napoletane. Vi si riportano le medaglie al valor militare, le decorazioni tributate a membri della Brigata, la partecipazione alla Guerra d'Indipendenza del 1866, le campagne d'Africa, ecc.
