Minimally ex-library with spine panels clear-coated and with handwritten call numbers repeated on copyright pages in ink dried glue residue on rear fixed endsheets of both volumes. Vol. I spine panel shows 1/2" surface cloth loss at head and 1/4" loss at heel Vol. II with minor loss at both extremities. Corners rubbed most showing modest exposure. Vol. I hinges mended and firm Vol. II hinges intact. Interiors clean typically a bit age-toned. Olive green cloth with gilt-stamped spine and cover titles. Endpapers with light green floral pattern. Former owner Thomas N. Haviland's name written on front free endpaper and bookplate on front fixed endpaper. Inscription on front fixed endpaper indicating that someone possibly Haviland purchased the book at Leary's Bookstore in Philadelphia in 1954. Thomas N. Haviland d. 1986 in the late 1930s was the museum curator at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy. In the 1950s he was the curator at the Wistar Institute; after his death it was discovered that he had relieved that Institute of items that were later found in his storage unit. He also taught a course in veterinary history beginning in 1960 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine where in 1973 he became Associate Professor of Anatomy. In Very Good Condition: ends of spine and corners rubbed; small ding in center of spine; late 20th-century cloth repair of both hinges; clean and tight. Charles Lawrence hardcover
