Per quanto concerne "Pierrette" si tratta d'una delle prime edizioni "pirata" in volume: la prima edizione francese in volume (chez Souverain) è della fine del 1840. Al contrario, "Une ténébreuse affaire" fu pubblicato in volume prima in Belgio, nel 1841, dalla Société belge de Librairie (l'edizione che noi presentiamo), da Haumann, da Meline e da A. Jamar, tutte edizioni che si rifacevano alle puntate apparse in Francia nel giornale "Le Journal du Commerce" (1841). Solo l'anno successivo - il 1842 - vedrà la pubblicazione dell'opera in volume in Francia, presso l'editore Souverain. Ottimo esemplare. Ex-libris Caproni.

Lukas Legrand), Stampò testi legati all'Illuminismo quali l'opera di Voltaire e di Federico II di Prussia, fece anche edizioni “pirata” di autori inglesi quali Addison, Smith, Hume. Eludendo la rigida regolamentazione inglese sul copyright, queste venivano pubblicate a minor costo in continente ed importate in Inghilterra, facendo concorrenza agli stampatori locali.
