Le donne sopravvissute sono nove, alle quali si aggiungono gli oltre venti bambini nati nel frattempo. E, soprattutto, dei quattordici uomini morti durante quei diciotto anni, tredici sono stati assassinati. Che cosa è successo? Cosa ha scatenato questa feroce ondata di violenza all'interno di una piccola comunità in fuga dal mondo, che si era rifugiata in un luogo remoto per iniziare una nuova vita? Attingendo con rigore alle scarse fonti dirette, e confrontando gli studi storici con il mito hollywoodiano, questo libro ricostruisce il percorso di un gruppo di individui che, in cerca di una nuova via, mossi dalla volontà di creare un diverso modello di società, si ritrovarono a vivere un incubo.

Many reproductions of black and white photos of smiling Chinese warphans and Chinese scenes, including war damage. Color photo on front cover. Laid inside back cover is a four-page 'Cabled Postscript' from the author intended for adult readers as it contains harsher details of the condition of millions of children she is not yet able to help. This postscript includes a quote and photo of Rear Admiral Yarnell, U.S.N., plus details of 'Coin-A-Meal' banks which were used to raise funds. Average wear. Unmarked.
