"Prima edizione della versione francese". Cfr. The Hill Collection of Pacific Voyages (2004),782, per la prima ediz. inglese del 1773: “Important collection chronicling English maritime expeditions. John Byron visited the Tuamoto Islands and Nikunau in what would later be called the Gilbert Islands. Captain Wallis discovered the volcanic island of Tahiti and Morea.. Captain Carteret discovered Pitcairn Island and some remote atolls in the South Seas. The first voyage under the not-yet-famous Captain Cook’s command was primarly of a scientific nature. The expedition was to sail to Tahiti in order to observe the transit of Venus across the disk of the sun, to determine the earth’s distance from the sun, and also to carry on the geographical discovery that John Byron had started. Entering the Pacific around Cape Horn, Cook reached Tahiti in 1769 and carried out the necessary astronomical observations.. Leaving Tahiti in July, Cook discovered, named and charted the Society Islands, and then, heading southwest, explored New Zealand. Cook then headed towards Australia and discovered and charted the eastern coast for 2.000 miles, naming the area New South Wales. He nearly lost his ship on the Great Barrier Reef. Both Australia and New Zealand were annexed by Britain as a result of this voyage, which began in 1768 and ended in 1771. Cook’s discoveries won him prominence, promotion, and the opportunity to sail again. They also ensured J. Hawkesworth’s position in maritime literary history, as the official chronicler of Cook’s first voyage”. Pagine ingiallite per la qualità della carta, altrimenti esemplare ben conservato.

H[amza] Gürgüç. First Turkish Edition. Rare. Not in OCLC. According to the foreword, this translation were made by its French Edition. First Edition in English, 1936. Bienstock was trained as a lawyer. He was a Bolshevik during 1904-07 and then adhered to the Mensheviks, becoming one of the 'liquidators' in that faction. During the First World War, he and other Russian socialists, including his wife Judith Grinfeld and fellow Menshevik David Dallin, worked in the Institute for the Study of the Social Consequences of the War in Copenhagen that was run by Alexander Helfand (Parvus). He returned to Russia in 1917, and worked with the future Bolshevik economist Yuri Larin. He left the Soviet republic in 1918, but returned to live in Odessa in 1921-22, and was then arrested and deported from Soviet territory. He was a contributor to the Mensheviks' paper, the Sotsialistichesky Vestnik under the name G Osipov. Bienstock settled in Germany, and became active in the German Social Democratic Party in Berlin. Somewhat oddly, whilst he stood on the right wing of the Mensheviks, he adhered to the left wing of the SPD, joined the Zukunft grouping, and at one point sought a personal meeting with Trotsky. He also held a keen interest in mysticism and eastern religion, as can be seen in at least one of the six essays reproduced below. Bienstock wrote several books and pamphlets, including Deutschland und die Weltwirtschaft (Dietz, Berlin, 1931), Volk und Sozialdemokratie. Die innen- und aussenpolitischen Erfolge der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Deutschlands (Dietz, Berlin, 1932), Deutschland und Frankreich. Eine Europäische Auseinandersetzung (Werk und Wirtschaft, Berlin, 1932), Kampf um die Macht. Zur neuen Politik der Sozialdemocratie (Laubsche, Berlin, 1932), Zwischen den Weltkriegen (Zentralstelle fur das Bildungswesen, Prague, 1934, Europa und die Weltpolitik Die Zonen der Kriegsgefahr (Graphia, Karlsbad, 1936), The Struggle For The Pacific (Allen and Unwin, London, 1937 [.]. Turkish translator, Hamza Gürgüç was a Turkish soldier. After graduating from the Military Academy in 1933, he served in different positions with different ranks in the Turkish Armed Forces. He participated in the Dersim Operation in 1937. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1961 and to Major General in 1965. (Source: Maxists Official Website).
