Henty has focused on the failings of Lord Cornwallis as he describes the battles in which Tipu Sultan invaded the state of Travancore with French allies which ended in his defeat at the siege of Serigapatam and the signing of the Treaty which required him to surrender half his kingdom to the British East India Company. The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War resulted in the death of Tipu Sultan when the British won a decisive victory at the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799.
