Printed wrappers a few stains some toning and separation along front joint. Provenance: June Shagaloff Alexander 1928-2022 American civil rights activist signature "June Shagaloff" on half-title and "Shagaloff" on front wrapper. Association copy owned by June Shagaloff Alexander who – one year after the publication of this exhaustive study of Haiti made by the United Nations – joined the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund headed by Thurgood Marshall she was just finishing up her undergraduate degree at NYU; Shagaloff did not marry and take the name of Michael Alexander until 1970. This Report claimed that is "deserves attention as a new departure in United Nations activities. Undertaken at the request of the Haitian Government" it evolved out of various organizations' studies of the country's developmental problems. It was published with the support of the President Harry S. Truman and Haitian President Dusmarsais Estimé Trygve Lie introduction. United Nations unknown

Sensationalist history of Haiti and voodoo published during the American occupation in part as a sequel to the author's Black Baghdad 1933 advertised on the rear panel of the present dust jacket as "The Arabian Nights Adventures of a Marine Captain in Haiti." The author a former U.S. Marine captain served as "a white officer of black troops in the interior and subsequently as Chief of Police in Port au Prince." More importantly Craige's "Two cauliflower ears a broken nose and a Mexican bullet in his hip are silent testimony to the fact that Captain Craige has been a man of action" - rear jacket panel. Seconda edizione di questa celebre ed interessante dei maggiori viaggi di scoperta nelle due Americhe da Colombo, Las Casas, Oviedo, Somara a Garcilasso, Acosta, Ulloa, Ellis, Phipps, Azara, Parby ecc. I viaggi riguardano Haiti, Antille, Guyana, Colombia, Brasile, Paraguay, Argentina, Patagonia, Cile, Bolivia, Guatemala, Messico, USA, Islanda. Esemplare mutilo delle due cartine e con presenti 21 tavole su 67 e per il resto nel testo completo. Sono presenti solo le tavole relative a Cuba, alla Guyana, ad Haiti e alla Colombia. Buono stato di conservazione.
