1961019792No Place: No Publisher 1961. Unbound. Good. John F. Kennedy Inaugural Ball Account in Letter. Two pages printed on single sides only. Thin yellow paper presumably a copy of the original produced at the same time as the original as the previous owner seemingly kept copies of all correspondence. From an executive of a very large international insurance firm name of owner and firm withheld for privacy. The previous owner saved these items for an apparent planned scrapbook mounting most on paper with either glue or staples. The owner was a highly placed executive in an insurance company and travelled throughout the world extensively. They were active in politics through donations and fundraising and it appears their family was friendly with the Roosevelts especially Eleanor Roosevelt. The previous owner's work for the insurance company led them to meet with various heads of state worldwide including US government officials. Some of the people associated with this firm were also involved in World War II activities including financing the Flying Tigers in China as well as work for the OSS using knowledge gained from insurance work. While we have not found any direct connection to intelligence work by this owner their ties to those who did are strong. NB: we are starting the process of cataloguing four boxes of material from this individual both personal and business correspondence. More information on the collection available on request. Previous owner is the same as the above item. This letter dated January 24 1961 details their arrival back in New York to who is presumed to be their spouse. After a few paragraphs about family matters the letter describes the owner's efforts to an inauguration event at the Statler Hotel/National Armory that was made extremely difficult by a bad snowstorm. Mentioned are performers such as Frank Sinatra Harry Belafonte Nat King Cole and others. The author then mentions attending one of five inaugural balls stating it was much like the Eisenhower Inaugural Ball but more crowded. Apparently Jackie Kennedy was too tired at this point to attend but JFK was "full of fire." The letter goes on with details about guests/friends and other personal matters. GOOD condition. Two binding holes punched at the top edge. Minor wrinkling. Pencil initials at the top of the first page. No Publisher unknown
021754No Place: No publisher. Hard Cover. Good. Presumed produced by McIntosh College in Dover New Hampshire circa 1937. Original glossy photographs of various sizes housed in a repurposed 1936 Strathmore paper promotional handbook. Paper covered boards with black paper leaves. 37 photographs present. It appears this book was assembled by McIntosh College in order to promote the college and its programs. The majority of students depicted are young women and the various students female or male are depicted attending various classes such as dictation etc. The photos also show women operating office machines and working in the assembling departing of McIntosh's publishing company. The last leaf has three smaller photos depicting the dorm life for women. Other photos in the book depict various business buildings around Dover NH indicating that those businesses hire McIntosh graduates. Many of the photos are accompanied by typed labels. It appears some photos have been removed and a few pages are empty. McIntosh College was founded in 1896 as the Dover Business College. David McIntosh bought it in 1902 and renamed it. The college closed in 2009. GOOD condition. Some fading soiling staining and scuffing to the covers. Photos are well done. A few are loose. No publisher unknown

Several black and white photos present including several of the steamboat Hiawatha. A booklet promoting steamboat trips on the Ocklawaha River in Florida a narrow twisting river that required specially designed steamboats for its navigation. Presumably started by Hubbard L. Hart the Ocklawaha Steamboat Company was probably the last iteration of the original company that was founded in 1865. Hart ran steamboats for the Confederacy during the Civil War helping to avoid Union blockades. The steamboats disappeared by the 1920s replaced by motor powered boats. GOOD condition. 020860No Place: John Mann Printer. Wraps. Good. No place or date perhaps Dover NH circa 1827 according to New Hampshire Historical Society information. Plain blue wraps. 12 pp. Rules and regulations for a private firefighting organization made up of community members in Dover New Hampshire. As Dover did not have a city supported firefighting unit social groups were formed to handle the duties. The first one was formed in 1795 and this appears to be one of several others formed after that. The piece outlines rules of governance but also outlines duties of its members including keeping two leather buckets and bags at their residences and responding to fires as soon as possible. Like any good "society" in the 1800s it appears this had a secret "watch" word that members were to give when asked for. Since there were several organizations in operation at the time rivalries were developed and it is possible this secret word kept people honest. A roster of members is included at the end with some names handwritten. GOOD condition. Rear cover and last leaf with a one inch jagged tear at the upper for edge with some associated creasing. Minor ink staining and soiling to the covers. Some dampstaining present to the wrappers with minor soiling and uneven fading. A few tick marks in the text. John Mann, Printer unknown

Corrothers was read cited by its first line "To be a Negro on a Day Like This." Another address "Where Ethiopia Should Stretch Forth Her Hands" was also given. Honorary members of Progressive Numbers are listed including Rev. J.A. Gregg Richard B. Harrison and Clarence Cameron White. List of last names and first initials of 12 members also present. 018984No Place: No publisher. Pamphlet. Good. No publisher place or date. Perhaps circa 1864. Pamphlet. Lacking any wrappers that may have been issued. 16 pages. A work relying heavily on quoted scripture to discuss the will of God and people especially as it relates to politics and government. It appears this was a long-winded way for Mr. Halsted to assert that the New York City politicians associated with Tammany Hall were being victimized by the Albany Regency politicians who were apparently using their positions as politicians to gain personal wealth. Historical perspective suggests this letter now seems somewhat ironic. While not in Sabin the bibliography indicates Halsted wrote then published letters to presidents Pierce and Lincoln. Good condition. Faint dampstain to the lower foredge margin. Alphanumeric pencil notation to the upper front page. Minor soiling and foxing. No publisher unknown
