Single issue of this journal devoted to current events world politics etc. This issue with an essay by William Sanders Scarborough on "Race Riots and their Remedy" in which he discusses racism and inequality in the United States that was brought into sharper focus during and after World War I asserting that African-Americans gained further knowledge about the extent of inequality in the US. Scarborough born into slavery became a classical scholar and served as president of Wilberforce University from 1908 to 1920. Also present is a look at drama and race relations discussing the growth of theaters catering to a Black audience. Somewhat tangential to this article are two photos of African-Americans displaced from their due to white racial violence. GOOD condition. A two volume work devoted to the Wright's Ferry Mansion a house originally built in 1738 and now restored to the year 1750. The books look at the house and its architecture its original owner English Quaker poet Susannah Wright its furniture decorative arts etc. VERY GOOD condition. Some fading to the spines. States 'From the Atlas and the Argus October 1858' on the bottom of the front wrapper and title page. Printed wraps although MISSING rear wrap. 126 pp. A printing of arguments rebuttals and statements against the trustees of the Dudley Observatory in New York defending the character of Benjamin Gould astronomer and assailing the trustees' actions. This controversy arose over a conflict in the building of the observatory with the appointed council of scientists and advisors advocating a suspension in building activities until the financial aspects were straightened out while the appointed trustees advocated a continuation of operations. This resulted in Gould being dismissed by the trustees with the council refusing to recognize this dismissal leading to Gould occupying the observatory until evicted see Dudley Observatory's website for a history of this controversy. FAIR/GOOD condition LACKING the rear wrap. Ex-library with a few blindstamps to the paper in the interior. Moderate darkening minor soiling and staining to the front wrap with creasing and wrinkling present as well as minor chipping and loss along the edges. Each issue contains short but detailed works of military history exploring topics such as 'The US Rifle Caliber 45 Model of 1873;' 'General Treatise on the Civil War;' 'A Prolegomenon to the History of Fort Wayne Detroit;' An intelligence report on Detroit by an American spy during the American Revolution; 'Expedition to Kentucky in 1780;' excerpts from the Winchester Orderly Book etc. All in GOOD or slightly better condition. Approximately 7/8 inches in diameter. Paper on the reverse reads "F. Ziegfeld Jr. Mgr Anna Held. A pinback promoting Polish-French actress and singer Anna Held. Working in Europe Held was "discovered" by Florenzo Ziegfeld in London in 1896 and was persuaded by him to return to New York with him. Ziegfeld a master promoter and user of media fed American papers semi-lurid or exotic tales of Held creating a public sensation before she even arrived. From 1896 to 1910 she was one of Broadway's most popular actors. Held and Ziegfeld were common law spouses until Ziegfeld began an affair in 1909 with another actress and married yet another performer in 1914. GOOD condition. 021924No Place: No publisher. Unbound. Very Good. Mr. Jacob M. Currier Handwritten Log of Lumber Delivered in his behalf. No publisher place or date. Believed Dover New Hampshire late 1700s. Single sheet approximately 7 by 5 inches. A short list of lumber delivered for "Mr. Currier" including what appears to be joints to Rogers and Patten. Research indicates they built brick buildings in Dover along the town landing in the early 1800s and it's possible this was for something else they were building prior to those. Also listed is bridge plank to "Cap Wingate" although it is not clear which Captain Wingate this was. Rogers and Patten are mentioned two other times on this slip along with price of merchandise. VERY GOOD condition. Minor wrinkling and toning. A few creases. Minor fraying along the right edge. No publisher unknown

A program for the 1906-1907 season of shows at the New York Hippodrome featuring a "Society Circus" with the whole show focusing on "gypsy" characters. Also present is several pages of music composed by composer Manuel Klein who wrote music for shows at the Hippodrome and other locales in New York and elsewhere. A photo of marksman Colonel Gaston Bordeverry aiming a gun at the top of a young woman's head also included. GOOD condition. Wrinkling and creasing to the covers with some scratches and scuffs resulting in a few tears and punctures. A few tears along the extremities. One side features a full color illustration of two women and two men each with a box of Search Light matches in their hand that when the paper is unfolded is lifted into the air. The rest of the piece is advertising copy touting the matches' ease of lighting that they don't get eaten by rats they're nonpoisonous etc. VERY GOOD condition. General toning. Black paper with photos nicely captioned with names and descriptions of locations or actions from time to time. Apparently from the collection of Ralph Adelbert Young. The photos depict trips to the Moosehill Bird Sanctuary in Sharon. Massachusetts several different summers at a "Camp Squanto" a trip to Chatham a trip to a cottage at Great Hill a hiking trip to Twin Bridges winter hiking swimming etc. The friend group was a mix of late teenage boys and girls.
