1805019914Windsor VT: Nahum Bower Publisher 1805. Unbound. Good. Side folding newspaper format. 8 pp. Single issue of this short-lived newspaper from Vermont apparently only publishing for one year. With the usual sort of news politics political commentary that one would expect from a paper. Of note is a brief account of what appears to have been an insurrection or rebellion by enslaved African Americans in Savannah Georgia. The account says the African Americans killed whites by poisoning and that thirteen were in jail. Two were hung one was burned alive and others faced other punishments. Research did not turn up any accounts of rebellions in Savannah Georgia in 1805 but an account of a rebellion in Wayne County North Carolina bears a striking similarity to this one. The account in this paper indicates that the insurrectionists were held in Waynesboro jail so perhaps their was some confusion surrounding the name. Also present is a short account of piracy originating from St. Augustine as well as a letter questioning Thomas Jefferson's interaction with Benedict Arnold during the Revolutionary War. 1865022123Richmond VA: Walker and Lewellen Publisher 1865. Tabloid. Good. Large format tabloid newspaper. Single sheet 4 pp. Single issue of this short lived newspaper from Richmond Virginia published from 1865 to 1866. The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History speculates that this was an occupation newspaper which may be true given that the town was burned by Confederate soldiers prior to surrender. The paper's byline reads "No North No South No East No West-Our Whole Country." This issue with the usual sort of local national and international news reporting on crime shipping food etc. Of note is a column on the upcoming trial of Jefferson Davis and another column that reports on the trial of a Spiritualist in New York that also reports on the practice of Spiritualism. 020121Boston: Saco-Lowell Publisher. Leather. Good. 1930-31. Flexible black leather covers binding all issues with original wrappers in the interior. Pagination varies. Black and white photos throughout. A complete run of two years' worth of this bulletin issued by the Saco-Lowell Company. As one of the largest manufacturers in the world in the 1920s they had factories in Lowell and Newton Massachusetts as well as Biddeford Maine. But after merging with another company and consolidating the company shuttered all its mills in Lowell and Newton by 1932 keeping only the Biddeford one going. These bulletins discuss the operations and usefulness of the various textile machinery they produced as well as other concerns within the industry. Name of George F. Albrecht in the interior who apparently held patents for machinery he invented for the use of the Saco-Lowell company. GOOD condition. A work promoting domestic war gardens in the US during World War I using comics and humor to look at the lighter side of food shortages ! and gardening. Most of the work reprinted from other newspapers and magazines. The pamphlet was published by the National War Garden Commission established by Charles Lathrop Pack prior to the US entrance into World War I. The commission hoped that the war garden would counter the negative effects of a large crop failure in 1916 as well as interruptions in shipping due to submarine warfare and the loss of farmworkers due to enlistment. Side folding tabloid newspaper 8 pages long. issue of the being as the by-line states "devoted to white supremacy state equality and federal union." The paper was published by John H. Van Evrie described by historian George M. Frederickson as "perhaps the first professional racist in American history." He used this paper to promote baseless ideas of scientific racism and to validate his views. Contents of this issue include politics racist diatribes and other subjects with any news of African-Americans written to portray them in a negative light. Not content with limiting the paper's racism to the US it also looks at natives of the Fiji Islands news from Europe etc. GOOD condition with horizontal and vertical fold creases present as well as some creasing and wrinkling. Moderate to heavy chipping and small tears along the extremities with some tearing and holes along the fold creases with perhaps loss of text. Minor foxing/spotting. Van Evrie, Horton and Co unknown

Apparently rebound in brown buckram with what appears to be the original wrap pasted down and laminated to the front cover. With new endpapers. A printing of a lecture read at a meeting of the Loyal Legion on March 1 1905. Thomas McCurdy Vincent was a brevet brigadier general in the US Army serving as an assistant adjutant general for McDowell at the Battle of Bull Run. This work offers a brief but detailed account of that battle drawing on other sources government records and quotes as well as the author's experiences. GOOD condition lacking any original wraps covers and endpapers. Rebound. Minor fading and edgewear to the covers with the remains of a white sticker at the upper left corner. Minor to moderate uneven browning to the paper in the interior. A small chip missing from the lower fore edge of the title page. A few minor tears at the extremities of a few pages. A piece of paper bearing the signature of Daniel Webster at the upper right with the name of George Wadleigh Esquire below. Dover NH written below that. No provenance given with this although it was originally from Dover and George Wadleigh was a somewhat notable name in the 19th century history of the town. We have not independently verified the signature of Daniel Webster but it does match known examples of his signature that we have seen. GOOD condition. Some wrinkling and creasing to the paper with minor toning and soiling. Edges a bit uneven presumably from being cut at some point. No publisher unknown

Printed wraps. 26 pp. Pertaining to the Dorr Rebellion of 1841 and 1842 in which disenfranchised voters in Rhode Island established a new constitution granting broader voting rights in contrast to the original Rhode Island charter. In Luther v. Borden it was argued that Borden had no authority to search the home of Luther a Dorr supporter as the Rhode Island charter was unconstitutional and thus did not grant Borden legitimate rights. In GOOD condition. Vertical crease present to the pamphlet with moderate uneven darkening minor soiling and a faint ownership signature in pencil at the upper front cover.
