Published by Order of the Governors and Committee of the Medical School. The Museum was founded in 1835 to maintain the collection of prpartaions of early Lectureres including Dr. Charles Bell and Dr. Sweatman who held the chair of Midwifery. This catalogue includes the work of A Special Committee to draw up regulations for the preservation of specimens and preparations and augmentation of the collection. Curators were appointed and the work of the Museum unfolded. In 1880 the offices of Curator and Pathologist were conbined a committee was appointed to create the first catalogue which revised and reorganized into a uniform plan with new descriptions for over 800 specimens. Compiled from his own diaries and correspondence the book records Sutton's missionary labours and his observations on the manners and customs of the Indian populace. The introduction to the work was composed en route to America where Sutton would spend the best part of two years eliciting support for the mission. . First edition. 8vo. "Amos Sutton 1802 in Sevenoaks in Kent - 17 August 1854 in Cuttack Odisha was an English General Baptist missionary to Odisha India and hymn writer. He published the first English grammar of the Odia language 1831 a History 1839 and Geography 1840 then the first dictionary of Odia 1841-1843 as well as a translation of the Bible 1842-1845. He also composed a hymn to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne": "Hail sweetest dearest tie that binds" and wrote a 'History of the mission to Orissa: the site of the temple of Juggernaut' 1835." Wikipedia.
