First American edition of this remarkable exploration narrative tracing the journey of over 1500 miles across the Arctic of Northwest Greenland with two fellow explorers and his experiences equipped with only the clothing and tools he acquired amongst the Indigenous Peoples communities. Haig-Thomas 1908-1944 was a British ornithologist who had competed in the 1932 Olympic Games and from 1937-1938 led this exploration and would later be killed in action during the D-Day landings June 6 1944. It should be noted this volume does use the Hodder & Stoughton sheets it includes the very scarce American dustjacket different from the photographic cover art of the British edition.
