1936978Y35Leipzig : Karl Baedeker Publisher 1936. First edition. Cloth. Good. 6" by 4". Not Stated . The first and only English edition of this Baedeker handbook describing Germany under Nazi regime with the very scarce 'Reichssportfeld' folding plan. The scarce first and only English edition of this traveller's handbook to Germany as a whole from reputable German publisher Karl Baedeker. In the original cloth binding. The only Baedeker guide to describe Germany as a whole under Nazi regime. While the earlier Baedekers were known for their objectivity this edition was revised to meet Nazi ideas of German history. The Versailles Treaty is deemed here "not a real peace in accordance with President Wilson's fourteen points but a dictated peace or rather a penal sentence which the vanquished were forced to accept". Published the year of the 1936 Olympic Games the introductory information reflects this encouraging tourists to visit the scene of the games and where one can go for winter sports. Also recommended for a traveller's sightseeing tour through the capital is a cemetery in the heart of the city where Horst Wessel a martyr for the Nazi party is buried. Illustrated with 108 maps and plans many dual-spread and thirty-five folding and a large folding road map kept in the rear pocket. This copy also comes with the very scarce 'Reichssportfeld' folding plan also to the rear pocket which shows the chief sports grounds used as the Olympic park of the 1936 Summer Olympics. This plan only appears in a select few copies. Collated complete. Externally with fading to the cloth and a chip to the front board. Rear consists of two boards to make the pocket. The 'outer board' is split to the top edge and rear joint therefore only attached by the bottom edge. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with minor offsetting to the front free endpaper and an institutional bookplate tipped-in to the front pastedown. Institutional blind stamp to the title page.
