The first was published in 1832 under the title " Voyage du Rhin de Mayence a Cologne." However this is considered to be the first true French Baedeker as much of the guide had been re-written. Baedeker had also introduced more town plans which include Cologne and Strasbourg. <br /><br />This copy is bound in the attractive yellow pictorial bindings known as Biedermeier the period 1815-1848 is often in German-speaking countries referred to as the Biedermeier period in art and especially with reference to a style of furniture. The architectural and landscape designs on these bindings always represent the area covered in the Baedeker. They are considered to be highly collectible.
