The three brothers were trying to rebuild the company after the war with limited means. Apparently some text on page 62 of " Leipzig " was altered after the Soviet authorities protested. Maps include Strasburg Frankfurt and Bonn. The attractive views include Schloss zu Heidelberg and Cologne. Eighth edition. pp. xvi 508 12 maps 32 plans vi 258 6 maps 17 plans slight spotting throughout; publisher's original old type red cloth gilt partly split along one edge of spine; otherwise a very good copy.<br /> This is an extremely rare volume covering South-West and North East Germany as well as Austria Italy and part of Denmark. <br /><br />This is the first part of this detailed guide which covers Austria South West Germany Venice and Lombardy. This volume also contains the second part which is very rarely seen. The second part covers Hannover Hamburg and Copenhagen. According to Hinrichsen this "second part" covering Central and Northern Germany was never published. The first part covering Italy and Austria appears occasionally but this "second part" rarely does. It was issued only a year after the seventh edition 1857. <br /><br />Maps include Berlin Breslau Dresden Hannover Hamburg Copenhagen and Danzig. The name of the Territory derived from the old name under Czarist Russia before World War I "General Gouvernement of Warsaw" and used by the Germans during the 1914/18 War after they had captured the region from Russia.
