South Australia's first newspaper was the South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register - later titled simply "The Register". The Register was founded by partners George Stevenson and Robert Thomas in London shortly before the two men with their families left for the new British colony of South Australia. The first issue of the Register was printed in London in June 1836 outlining the publishing venture and promoting the new experimental colony. After various difficulties the second issue appeared one year later printed in a rush hut off Hindley Street. This is a heavy book and will cost more to ship internationally.
