This is a fascinating expedition report on the Malay Archipelago, specifically the Cocos or Keeling Islands, accompanied by a visually appealing and valuable fold out colour map for illustration. Charles Darwin formulated a theory of the origin of coral reefs, This report mentions Darwin's theories and observations frequently, and is an excellent example of how early and how widely Darwin's work and theories were accepted by all his peers regardless of the apparent controversy he stirred up.

È il diario di tre indimenticabili viaggi in Australia. È il racconto della vita vissuta in questa terra lontana, la descrizione dei luoghi esplorati e delle sensazioni provate dall'autore. Vuole essere spunto anche per i "viaggiatori" che intendono "perlustrare" sia posti conosciuti sia posti lontani dai flussi turistici, nel vero cuore dell'Australia. Vi sono sicuramente indicazioni utili e "dritte" per spendere nel miglior modo il tempo. Questa terra piena di misteri e di sogni rimane uno dei pochi posti al mondo dove spazi infiniti rapiscono l'occhio e dove la presenza degli uomini è spesso irrilevante, trascurabile, direi quasi insignificante. In questo continente dai colori talora violenti, talora soffusi, puoi ascoltare il silenzio delle foreste pluviali, vivere la solitudine dei grandi deserti, vagare nella natura incontaminata inebriandoti dei suoi profumi, nuotare in baie dai colori allucinanti, passeggiare lungo incredibili spiagge che si prolungano all'infinito, fare il nomade stregato dal continuo mutare dei paesaggi, riposare in posti dimenticati da Dio, guidare su piste al limite dell'impossibile, gustare fino in fondo il vero senso di libertà.
