Unpaginated. Large black and white photographs throughout. Gendarme was to be a Police Horse, but he was big and awkward and slow to learn, and it seemed he would never be a trooper's mount. His trainer called him "Ugly Duckling", but he liked Gendarme's calm, quiet nature and patiently began to train the horse. The true story of how Gendarme learned the ways of a Police Horse. Average wear. Blue boards moderately bumped. Dust jacket well-worn with three inch tear at top of front panel near spine and some smallish chunks missing.
