First edition 2nd printing stated of the author’s first book and autobiographical memoir expanded from his June 1930 article entitled “The Sirocco Calls-In†in the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin. By 1930 Flynn had been expelled from Sydney Grammar for theft dismissed from a Sydney Shipping Co. for helping himself to the petty cash and usually just ahead of the law had washed up in New Guinea where he purchased the cutter Sirocco from Lars Halvorsen. After stowing provisions he and three mates set out on a 2000 mile voyage up the East coast of Australia to New Guinea while claiming that they’d been shipwrecked. His later memoirs recount Flynn’s adventures in New Guinea dabbling with slave trade standing trial for murder mining the New Guinea gold fields and succession of romantic epic movies.
