It's a humorous tale dramatising the misadventures of the characters told through four interpolated tales. Written by Paul Scarron an author who was the first husband of Francoise d'Aubigne who later became Madame de Maintenon and secretly married King Louis XIV of France.'Histoire des Amours de Henry IV' is a fictionalised account of the love life of Henry IV of France. The author Louise Marguerite of Lorraine was a cousin by marriage of the King and was one of his lovers.With an engraved title to 'Le Roman Comique' Volume I. Register runs as: 4 A-L12 M8 2-3 A-K12 L9 A-G12 H11.'Le Roman Comique' Volume II is bound without leaf 1. In a full vellum binding. Externally generally smart with light marks and a little age-toning as is usual with a vellum binding. Light bumping to the extremities. Ink to the spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Before its debut Hansberry worked as a Black civil rights activist and journalist for Black papers and is now known to have been a closeted lesbian leading to intense isolation even after she was catapulted into fame.</p><p>The play debuted at The Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 1958 and the book was published the following year it includes photographs of the original production and therefore documents a crucial moment in the history of performance arts.</p><p><i>Hardcover 142 pp. Quarter cream cloth and textured marbled brown card with paper label photograph of actor Glynn Turman as Travis in centre.
