From the library of swiss - american - irish poet Chuck Kruger. Harvest Books Nos. HB174 & HB199. The Diary of Anaïs Nin is the published version of Anaïs Nin's own private manuscript diary which she began at age 11 in 1914 during a trip from Europe to New York with her mother and two brothers. Over the years the diary would become Anaïs Nin's best friend and confidante. Despite the attempts of her mother therapists Rene Allendy and Otto Rank and writer Henry Miller to break Anaïs Nin of her dependence on the diary she would continue to keep a diary up until her death in 1977. As early as the 1930s Anaïs Nin had sought to have the diary published. Due to its size in 1966 the diary contained more than 15000 typewritten pages in some 150 volumes and literary style she would not find a publisher until 1966 when the first volume of her diary would be published covering the years 19311934 in her life. The published version of her diary would be very popular among young women making Anaïs Nin a feminist icon in the 1960s. Six more volumes of her diary would follow. paperback

1948144891New York: E.P. Dutton & Company 1948. First edition of this landmark novel from the library of Anais Nin. Octavo original black cloth. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Accompanied by a clipped dedication page that reads "For Anais Nin" boldly signed by Vidal laid in. Gore Vidal and Anais Nin's friendship emerged from their shared commitment to challenging the literary and cultural orthodoxies of mid-twentieth-century America. While Vidal’s incisive social satire and Nin’s lyrical explorations of erotic subjectivity differed in style both writers pursued themes of identity and transgression which created a foundation of mutual admiration. In fine condition. From the library of Anais Nin. An exceptional association linking these two great writers. Stylistically influenced by Hemingway this work "is distinguished by its honesty and lack of self-pity; the central figure is unexceptional in every respect but his sexual choices" Stringer 690. "One of the best novels of its kind. . . . It isnt sentimental and it is frank without trying to be sensational and shocking" Christopher Isherwood. E.P. Dutton & Company hardcover
