Hardcover original marbled paper cover boards half bound in leather with red and black labels to spine. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling with cracking in wear to the leather. Internal binding is good no hinge issues nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age and foxing and spotting is present throughout. Front hinge is starting to open in the center. Previous owners names are written in several areas it appears as book was passed down from father to son with the front and rear pastedowns showing the name R. S. Brown - May 1886 in the first end page shows the name C. L. Brown. In addition the original owner signed 'Brown" twice on the title page. No other handwriting found in the book. The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. There are 2 University Library stamps on the first end paper No other library markings. The prior owner wrote their name date and town on the second end paper and wrote some notes on the last end paper. The title page and first few pages show very light foxing. The title page shows 1857 as the published date. The decorative red covers have gold design and gold gilt page fore edges. OCLC 967844253 Acts include incorporation of seven gold mining companies nine acts regarding construction of roads twenty-one acts regarding establishment of militias five acts regarding treatment of Negroes etc. In 1825 a reporter wrote: “The mining interest of the State is now only second to the farming interest.” Most North Carolina gold was found in ten Piedmont counties: Guilford Randolph Davidson Rowan Montgomery Stanly Cabarrus Mecklenburg Gaston and Union but there were deposits farther west.
