This collection of letters belonged to Bernard Jordan who lived in Maine. A few different addresses in Maine but the 1940 Census shows him living in Raymond Cumberland Maine which is the address on many of the letters. While the archive spans many years most of the letters are from the 1920s or earlier. Oddly last item in the group is a phone bill from 1962. Good.

The author writes humorous poetry to express his distress at new and excessive tax laws. A complete list of taxable property would take "Methuselah's hours.Although I have little that now commands cash; I've plenty in 'ruins' all broken to smash; A fine dish of 'all-sorts' to publish in form; Would make out a list thrice as long as my arm. So I must abbreviate and name them in groups; then let our great ASSES-ors examine to boot."
OCLC 15328280 9. Press of the Tolland County Republican unknown books

Anth Merchants in Havana.which has arrived out.but I have not received any remittance on account of it yet. My orders were for them to sell it and remit the proceeds in molasses and sugar." Two-inch closed tear at the right margin; otherwise very good.

It's possible that this letter is not from a disgruntled merchant but from a smuggler who has been cheated.
