A collection of quatrains attributed to Omar Khayyam a Persian polymath known for contributions made to astronomy philosopher poetry and mathematics. There is a tradition of attributing poetry to Khayyam which became widely known to the English-reading world following this translation which was found to be very popular due to the interest in Orientalism of the fin de siecle. Translated by Edward Fitzgerald an English poet and writer. Edited by George Frederick Maine a Scottish author and editor. Followed by Euphranor: A Dialogue on Youth and Salaman and Absal: An Allegory translated from the Persian of Jami. In the original paper covered boards. Externally excellent. Internally firmly bound.
