Science under Scrutiny The Place Of History And Philosophy Of Science Edizione Inglese di R. W. Home (a cura di) Editore: Springer Netherlands EAN: 9789048183845 ISBN: 9048183847 Pagine: 208 Formato: Paperback Only in fairly recent years has History and Philosophy of Science been recognized - though not always under that name - as a distinct field of scholarly endeavour. Previously, in the Australasian region as elsewhere, those few individuals working within this broad area of inquiry found their base, both intellectually and socially, where they could. In fact, the institutionali zation of History and Philosophy of Science began comparatively early in Australia. An initial lecturing appointment was made at the University of Melbourne immediately after the Second World War, in 1946, and other appointments followed as the subject underwent an expansion during the 1950s and '60s similar to that which took place in other parts of the world. Today there are major Departments at the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales and the University of Wollongong, and smaller groups active in many other parts of Australia, and in New Zealand.

New English Paperback. Large 8vo. Bilingual in English and Turkish. 320 p., color ills. Rare and endemic plants of the Datça-Bozburun peninsula.= Datça-Bozburun yarimadasinin nadir ve endemik bitkileri. "I interested in plants long time ago. I believe that every nature-lover noticed and wandered about this colorful and variegated world. There were very few publicatons, particularly visual ones about Turkey's native plants. I thought that there must be a way to correctly identfy the similar-looking but differently named plants when I took a look at their photographs. After a long search I sadly found that there is only one source for this: A book of eleven volumes, which is full of scientific terms and has been written in English, named 'Flora of Turkey & east aegean islands'. I spent a long time to learn the botanical terms and to find the corresponding parts of the plants. As there were very few figures in that book, sometimes it took a few months to find only one term's meaning. When I deeply interested in this world I decided that my second goal must be sharing information and publishing a book about plant identification, basically scientific but targeting amateurs who I was sure were in a great number. As a beginning, I founded a group in Facebook, namely 'Flora' in 2009, and, subsequently a website, which contained information about our native plants both added by amateurs and the scientists. By this book I aimed to faciliate the identification for amateur plant-lovers as a first step. I added some brief information and pointed the distinguishing features of the plants by arrows, which are not found in other books about plants which have been published before and, pleased to see that they are increasing gradually in Turkey. The book consists of many plants which were collected and scientifically identified from almost every accessible parts of the peninsulas following about four years' research. About 800 plants have been identified but only 270 of them, which are rare and/or endemics have been included for convinience. The plants were sorted in a scientific manner, first the families and then the genus, as I think it is more scientific and correct. Differently colored but otherwise very similar plants are displayed side-by-side in the book. I wish this book will be useful for all nature-lovers, either the amateurs or the scientists".
