281 pages. Future historians may well agree that Martin Exeter led one of the great lives of the twentieth century. He shaped circumstance through the transcendance of the ordinary human condition. At the age of 21 he left the life of the British aristocracy and moved to the Cariboo region of British Columbia where he honed the strength of character that would eventually make him a source of inspiration to thousands of people worldwide. He founded the town of 100 Mile House B.C. and went on to lead a body of people known as the Emissaries to what could be called today an unprecedented force for the spiritual restoration of the planet. Light wear to book which is unmarked. Light edgewear to attractive glossy dust jacket. Book

Dust jacket shows the slightest signs of shelf wear with a 1" tear at top spine. First edition of this scarce and invaluable work on the art of the subarctic Athapaskans in Western Canada and British Columbia from pre-Columbian period to present day, focusing on clothing ornamentation with elaborate beadwork on jackets, shoes, pants, dog blankets, wigs, bags, dresses, leathergoods of all kinds, and a sophisticated quill tradition. With many maps, b&w photos, some color. Heavily illustrated.

136 pages. 12.5 x 10.5". Chronology. Illustrated endpapers. "This extraordinary book portrays a rich and flourishing culture. An extended essay illustrated with archival photographs sets the scene. Then 80 stunning colour images chronicle an annual cycle of activity from the oolichan harvest to the coming of winter, from the raising of the first new totem pole in a century to documenting ceremonies rooted in pre-history. The interweaving of image with words from an oral tradition, which predates the Greeks by thousands of years, reveals a wonderfully sophisticated understanding of the human and natural world." - from dust jacket.
