181219588Flushing Queens 1812. Very good condition. Obligation dated March 24 1812 Flushing Township in Queens County New York. Regarding $300 owed to James Cornwall of the City of New York and signed by Charles P Cornwall although the signature is torn away. Witnessed by Robert W. Rumsey and George Perry. Notes in pencil on verso showing payment of $285.08 in 1826. 7 1/2 x 12 1/2" folded.

Charles P. Cornwall was a large landowner in Queens in the early 1800s with Bayside Farm being the most valuable of his properties. In 1838 Cornwall named Thomas Whitson and John Nostrand his neighbors as trustees empowered to sell as much of his real estate as was needed to cover his debts and to lease the rest of it to cover his living expenses. They sold Cornwall's Bayside Farm for $15000 to Samuel Willetts of New York in 1838. The trustees using some of the assets from the sale then made a loan to Elisha Hall of Newburgh NY for $6000. Cornwall died in 1839 Hall failed to repay the interest or principal and the trustees were sued. The case gives an interesting perspective on the value of property in Queens at the time: "His Cornwall's preference for farms over city property differs from the opinion of most well informed and shrewd capitalists; but it may nevertheless be well doubted whether a farm situated in a populous neighborhood and near several great thoroughfares is not safer for a permanent investment than any city property". Cases in Law and Equity Supreme Court of the State of New York. Barbour Oliver L. Vol. XX. New York: Banks and Brothers. 1883. p 142-7. unknown

Regarding $1900 owed to James Strong "of the City of New York Merchant" at the rate of seven per cent per annum and signed by Charles P. and Warren Cornwall. Witnessed by S. B. Nicoll. The back of the sheet details the payments to James Strong and Thomas H. Betts. These payments begin in 1830 to Strong; they continue after the bond was assigned to Thomas H. Betts. The last one appears to be have been made on June 19th 1839 "of Benjamin W. Strong executor of Charles P. Cornwall $2038. 94 signed Thos H Betts". This last record of payment affixed to bottom of the original document with wax. A few splits at original folds 8 x 18".

Charles P. Given the passage of time advances in technology and dissemination of related information into the public domain. Among the contributors are: Paul Dimotakis Sidney Drell and Freeman Dyson. John Michael Cornwall born 19 August 1934 is an American theoretical physicist who is known for the Pinch Technique. Cornwall invented the Pinch Technique for calculating gauge-invariant off-shell Green's functions for QCD and other Yang-Mills theories showing how a dynamical gauge-invariant mass arises for QCD gluons and how such gluons lead to confinement and other non-perturbative phenomena. He has also written some 40 papers on space plasmas such as the magnetospheric ring current leading among other things to a detailed understanding of the dynamical role of electromagnetic cyclotron instabilities in the magnetosphere. Cornwall published with Richard E. Norton in 1973 one of the earliest papers on dynamic symmetry breaking in Yang-Mills theories. He was an advisor to the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria as well as to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA. He was a member of the Defense Science Board. He is a long-term member of the JASON Advisory Group. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society 2005 the American Geophysical Union and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The JASON study was informed by 'The Lincoln Labs" study which also posed challenges due to limitation on its use. Missile defense systems are a type of missile defense intended to shield a country against incoming missiles such as intercontinental ballistic missile ICBMs or other ballistic missiles. The United States Russia Taiwan India France Israel Italy United Kingdom and China have all developed missile defense systems. The term "Missile defense system" broadly means a system that provides any defense against any missile type conventional or nuclear by any country. Any mechanism which can detect and then destroy a missile before it can cause any harm is called a missile defense system MDS. The role of defense against nuclear missiles has been a heated military and political topic for several decades. However missile defense is no longer limited to interception of strategic nuclear weapons. The gradual development and proliferation of missile technology has blurred the line between the technologies for the interception of tactical missiles usually short to intermediate range with non-nuclear payloads and the interception of strategic missiles usually long ranged with nuclear payloads. High-performance tactical ballistic missiles carrying non-nuclear payloads now have the ability to affect strategic balance in conflict zones. Likewise high-performance tactical missile defense systems can now influence force deployment strategies. Defending against an attack by a cruise missile is similar to tackling low-flying manned aircraft and hence most methods of aircraft defence can be used for a cruise missile defense system.
