47 p. 4to. Unopened. Uncut. Old dampstain. Sewn in plain wraps. The eminent surgeon and anatomist Jacques Tenon is best remembered today by a major Paris hospital that bears his name, as well as by a capsule to which the muscles of the eye are attached. But his study of hospitals and medical education in France is his real monument. Tenon, member of the Royal Academies of Sciences, Surgery, and Agriculture, and well connected to the reforming ministers of pre-Revolutionary France, was a pivotal player in the work of a group of scientist celebrities from the Academy of Sciences, under Crown sponsorship, to rebuild the municipal hospital of Paris (1785-1789). The reports he produced and great his 'Memoires sur les Hospitaux de Paris' (1788) remain the most widely cited and influential Enlightenment treatises on the architecture, goals, and operation of what was to become the modern hospital. This is an extremely scarce separate report on the problems of effectively studying anatomy - especially with the difficulty of securing appropriate cadavers (a problem which was plaguing physicians in Italy. England, and America as well). **PRICE JUST REDUCED! FR1
