This Berry phase which had been overlooked for more than half a century provides us a very deep insight on the geometric structure of quantum mechanics and gives rise to various observable effects. The concept of the Berry phase has now become a central unifying concept in quantum mechanics with applications in fields ranging from chemistry to condensed matter physics. With Nabhan's ownership stamp in blue at the top of the page. One of 1000 copies a slender chapbook book of about 40 pages presenting as the title notes three memorial poems entitled "Elegy" "Requiem" and "Rising." Nabhan is known in particular for his writing on Indigenous populations and ethnobotany in the Southwest and is a winner of the John Burroughs Medal for nature writing and a MacArthur "Genuis" Grant among many other honors. A new reflective memoir taking stock of his impressive career is due out from Milkweed in 2026. Berry and Nabhan are friends and their work aligns closely around sustainable agriculture food systems land use and more Berry wrote the foreword for Nabhan's book Enduring Seeds. Karen Reichhardt was Nabhan's wife and is a fellow botanist; they co-founded a native seed organization together.
