Robinson and J. Edwards London and edited by Mary Berry with a substantial new introduction by Peter Sabor. From the introduction: "This facsímile edition of the Works of 1798 reveals the range of Walpole's oeuvre. Walpole as historian dramatist poet essayist and literary critic remains a shadowy being in contrast to the familiar figure of Walpole as novelist correspondent and writer of political memoirs. Faced with the bulk of the collection and a short deadline Charles Burney complained at the outset of his review that "far from having been able as yet to enter on a critical discussion of the merit of the several articles contained in this very interesting publication we have scarcely had leisure enough to cut open the leaves of the first volume" July 1798 p. 323.
