This was done shortly after the completion of the redesigning of the grounds of the Parliament Buildings by architects Thomas Scott and Calvert Vaux. <br><br>Wilson Reed Berry 1851-1928 was an American painter. Berry submitted some drawings to the Beldon Atlas Company of Chicago. Hired as a sketch artist Berry traveled for ten years over thirty states and into Canada drawing and painting landscapes and pictures of farms and animals. A 'New Edition' complete in two volumes. In handsome morocco bindings.With a frontispiece to volume I.Her most famous work Berry published the first volume in 1828 under the title 'A Comparative View of the Social Life of England and France from the Restoration of Charles the Second to the French Revolution' and a second volume in 1931 titled 'Social Life in England and France from the French Revolution in 1789 to that of July 1830'.Berry offers a comparison of English and French society throughout history contrasting the aristocratic culture of France prior to the Revolution with the more restrained British society particularly in relation to manners governance and the role of women.Berry is notable for her association with close friend Horace Walpole whose literary collection she her sister and her father inherited. Hardcover green cloth beveled boards with gilt text on front and spine. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The top and bottom edges of the spine are missing sections of the cloth. The main reason for the very low condition grade of fair is because the first end page has been torn out presumably to take out the signature of the original owner. There is only one blank and page and the front still present. The only handwriting that was found in the book is opposite the title page no other markings noted. Pages are toned due to age and there is some pulling and spots and the rear hinge is cracking. This book is in early temperance publication on the evils of liquor and is uncommon to find the original publication - even in this condition. <br/> <br/> Alfred Mudge & Son hardcover

From Wikipedia: "John Berry Haycraft was a professor in physiology and carried out important medical research. Haycraft was born in Lewes Sussex England in 1859 and received his medical education in Edinburgh. He worked for a time in Ludwig's laboratory in Leipzig. In 1881 he was appointed chair of physiology at Mason College which later became the University of Birmingham. He taught in Birmingham and attracted many students to the city. During his years in Birmingham and Edinburgh Haycraft had been actively engaged in research and published papers on the coagulation of blood and in 1884 he discovered that the leech secreted a powerful anticoagulant which he named hirudin although it was not isolated until the 1950s nor its structure fully determined until 1976. Haycraft returned to London 1892 and was appointed a research scholar of the British Medical Association. Falls diese Einprägungen glatte ungestreifte Einsenkungen hätten den Fasern entsprechend so würde dies ein Beweis für die bauliche Verschiedenheit der Fibrille sein; falls dagegen die Einprägungen gestreift wäre so könnte dies nur der Thatsache zugeschrieben werden dass die Streifung der Einprägungen resp. des Muskels durch die Form der Fibrille bedingt ist welche Form und Streifung im Acte des Abdrucks auf die weiche Masse übertragen wurde. On offer is a letter from a successful 19th century business owner to his father Albert concerning several business matters that cannot wait. The letter was handwritten on September 22 1885 by Eugene S. Berry 1854-1922 of Rochester New York to his father Albert. Eugene owns and operates E. S. Berry Victor Roller Mills a wholesaler of flour and feed operated in Victor Ontario County New York. Context clues from within the letter suggest that Albert plays a high-level role in the business and that Eugene seeks his approval. This single-page letter is handwritten on E. S Berry letterhead. In it Eugene informs his father of challenges with getting a business contract from Mr. Parmele who seems to be an employee of his firm. Mr. Parmele is eager to have Eugene sign said contract imminently but Eugene will require additional time with it before signing. Eugene expresses concern that the company insurance policy expires that very day. An excerpt: I told him that I should want ample time to examine the contract and search and that the 25th would not give it time if he did not furnish the search sooner than Thursday and if then I would be ready on Monday the 28th if all was right. Eugene concludes his letter signing it Yours in haste. This brief letter provides insight into the daily stresses of a busy American businessman as the 19th century drew to a close. The letter is written on one side of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. There is evidence that the letter has been folded but it is in good shape. The writing is extremely legible. There are two tiny tears on the left side of the letter at the fold lines but this does not interfere with readability. Overall G. ; Letters; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1 pages; Signed by Author .
