On offer is a letter from a successful 19th century business owner to his father Albert concerning several business matters that cannot wait. The letter was handwritten on September 22 1885 by Eugene S. Berry 1854-1922 of Rochester New York to his father Albert. Eugene owns and operates E. S. Berry Victor Roller Mills a wholesaler of flour and feed operated in Victor Ontario County New York. Context clues from within the letter suggest that Albert plays a high-level role in the business and that Eugene seeks his approval. This single-page letter is handwritten on E. S Berry letterhead. In it Eugene informs his father of challenges with getting a business contract from Mr. Parmele who seems to be an employee of his firm. Mr. Parmele is eager to have Eugene sign said contract imminently but Eugene will require additional time with it before signing. Eugene expresses concern that the company insurance policy expires that very day. An excerpt: I told him that I should want ample time to examine the contract and search and that the 25th would not give it time if he did not furnish the search sooner than Thursday and if then I would be ready on Monday the 28th if all was right. Eugene concludes his letter signing it Yours in haste. This brief letter provides insight into the daily stresses of a busy American businessman as the 19th century drew to a close. The letter is written on one side of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. There is evidence that the letter has been folded but it is in good shape. The writing is extremely legible. There are two tiny tears on the left side of the letter at the fold lines but this does not interfere with readability. Overall G. ; Letters; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1 pages; Signed by Author .

46402194Il demande à ce libraire de Nevers de lui procurer le livre de l’abbé Gueneau sur la Cathédrale de Nevers ainsi que Les ascendances nivernaises de Saint-Just par J. Hanoteaux. Ces cartes ont été envoyées du domicile parisien du poète nivernais, au 13 rue de Condé. Victor Gautron du Coudray est né à Nevers en 1868 dans une famille de faïenciers. Il était le neveu du commandant Barat qui illustra L’Album Historique et Pittoresque du Nivernois. A quinze ans, il devint l’un des meilleurs élèves du paysagiste Hector Hanoteau (1823-1890). Initié à l’histoire naturelle par le R.P. Pestre, correspondant du Muséum, il étudie au Muséum, à l’Ecole d’Anthropologie et à la faculté des Sciences de Paris. S’il s’est révélé d’abord géologue, c’est en qualité de botaniste qu’il écrivit ses premiers ouvrages. Contraint à vendre sa propriété en 1901, il vivra à Paris de revenus aléatoires. Âgé, il retourna dans la Nièvre, dans une petite chambre de l’hospice de Corcelles réservée aux artistes. Il y mena une vie très active, plantant son chevalet sur les berges de la Loire ou arpentant les environs pour herboriser.Bien avant ce retour définitif dans la Nièvre, il s’intéressa de près aux musées du département. C’est ainsi qu’il remplaça Emile Boisseau à la direction du musée de Clamecy. A Marzy, en 1938, il fonda le premier musée de village, puis en 1942 le cabinet de numismatique de la Bibliothèque Municipale de Nevers, avec un don à la ville de 1778 pièces de monnaie. Il est également à l’origine de la création du Musée de La Charité-sur-Loire en 1954.
