Cameo style gilt frame surrounds laid in color illustration on front cover. Gilt titles and decorations on cover are bright. Sepia or brown colored illustrations throughout. 32 heavyweight glossy pages with single color illustrations on almost every page. Author Hezekiah Butterworth 1839-1905 wrote more than 70 books most for young adults many of them with religious themes. He also wrote for many periodicals and was assistant editor as Youth's Companion magazine. He may be best known for the Zigzag Series of books for boys published by the same publisher as this volume. Corners and head and heel of spine worn edgewear and small bump to back board. Penciled price and fingermarks on fep. Binding is cracked at title page and book is shaken. There are finger or smudge marks on the borders of many pages. There is a very very light waterstain on the far margin of bottom corners. Publisher's blemish to inside margin between pages 16 and 17 and to the top of page 14 and 15. We note a wrinkled corner to the top of page 9 and a half inch tear on the top of page 11. Clipped from the "Congressional Record -- Appendix" of February 18 1952 this is the text of a patriotic speech titled "Lincoln Day Address by Hon. Frank Carlson of Kansas" delivered by Carlson in Brooklyn New York on February 18 1952 and is boldly signed at the top across the title along with "U.S. Senate / Kansas" in black fountain pen. The title introduction and beginning of the opening paragraph began on one page of this publication a piece 2½" X 3½" while the vast bulk of the speech appears on both sides of a single leaf A931 and A932 and several brief closing paragraphs run on another page a piece 2½" X 3"; these two small snippets have been neatly affixed at the start and finish so that the speech is presented as a single if odd shaped sheet with text front and back.
