Small octavo original boards elaborately stamped in blind with gilt titles and tooling to the front panel. In very good condition. Founded in 1718 by French colonists the city of New Orleans was once the territorial capital of French Louisiana before it was traded to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. In the 19th century New Orleans was the largest port in the South exporting most of the nation's cotton output and other products to Western Europe and New England.
