In his campaign Reagan quoted John F. Kennedy frequently in an effort to get the American people to accept in particular his tax policies. Bush bearing Bush's signature in facsimile and housed in the original box bearing the seal of the Vice President of the United States. In near fine condition. After receiving the Republican nomination in the 1980 presidential election Reagan selected one of his opponents in the primaries George H. W. Bush who would succeed him in 1989 to be his running mate. Reagan was 69 years old when he was sworn into office for his first term on January 20 1981. In his inaugural address he addressed the country's economic malaise arguing: "In this present crisis government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem."
