Title page 2 page score and ad with partial scor for "That Tumble-Down Shack in Athlone" on rear cover. Nazimova had starred two years earlier on Broadway in the original play as well. She produced the movie as well as co-wrote the screenplay with her supposed husband Charles Bryant who starred alongside her. NOTE: Although there is no "first printing" or "first edition" statement in this copy of the book I believe it to be such and to therefore constitute an exception to the usual Random House practice for their published plays. The printed price $3.95 is present on the front jacket flap along with the printing code 10/66 at the bottom corner of the flap. In addition this was part of a collection in which nearly all the published plays were review copies with publisher's slips to document the fact; although there is no slip present in this copy I believe it to also be a review copy. At the head of the title is the notation: "Virginia Minstrels No. 14. No copy located outside North Carolina or Virginia. Found at: the University of Virginia William & Mary the Library of Virginia and UNC at Chapel Hill and Duke. The wording and music are not those of the late state song of Virginia the words declaim the longings of an old black oysterman to be back on a scow raking up oysters. There are no references to slavery his employer nor does it contain any "sensitive" or non-p.c. expressions or words. It became a very popular song among Confederate troops in the Civil War.
