1961008126Wallasey Cheshire England: Spin Publications 1961. RARE. 61 magazines the complete run of one of Britain's early and iconic folk music revival magazines. All are Near Fine to Fine. 10 issues each in the first 3 volumes 6 each in Vols. 4-6 5 issues in Vol 7 Nos. 5 and 6 in a combined issue and 4 issues in Vols. 8 and 9. The first seven numbers of Vol. 1 printed as a duplicated 12 page stapled magazine in 300 copies. By the time of Vol. 1 No.7 the magazine had become so popular that it went into photo offset and 1000 copies were printed. Published out of Chelsea under the auspices of the the Liverpool Spinners and the Spinners Club the magazine's main focus was on British traditional folk music. Editor Beryl Davis was the wife of the Spinners singer Tony Davis. By 1965 it had grown to 500 readers with many in America. Covers in Vol. 2 included Martha & Huddie Ledbetter Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger while Vol. 3 No. 7's cover featured a then 24 year old Bob Dylan. Individual issues are SCARCE in todays market so to complete a full set would be a long term project. Worldcat notes 4 institutional holdings none of which have complete sets.
