A very scarce programme for the Gaiety Theatre in the West End of London presenting a trio of shows taking place in 1879. A very scarce programme for a theatre performance in 1897. Presenting a series of three shows taking place at The Gaiety Theatre in London on Monday December 15th 1879. Located in the West End The Gaiety was known for its musical burlesque pantomime and operetta performances and is recognised as having an important influence on the progression of musical comedy. The first show on this programme commenced at 6.45pm the second following at 7.45 and the final concluding the night at 9.45. This series of shows are comprised of the following: 'Rose of Auvergne' one act of the operetta written by French composer Jacques Offenbach.'Uncle' a "New and Original Farcical Piece in Three Acts" by English dramatist Henry Jame Byron who had a number of plays performed at the Gaiety. 'Robbing Roy; Or Scotched and Kilt' a burlesque play written by English comic writer and prolific playwright F. C. Burnand. With a number of original advertisements on the inside and rear covers including for Schweppes Mineral Waters Swanbill Corsets Freeman's Chlorodyne and "Seal Paletots at Wholesale Prices" among others. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally very good with light creasing to the extremities and the odd mark. Small tears to the head and tail of the spine. Pages holding reasonably firm. Internally bright and clean. Very Good Letts, Son & Co. unknown
