26885Headed: Peter Maxwell Davies Hoy Orkney 6 July 1982. One page 21 x 19.5 cms. He apologises for late reply but has had an "unprecedently busy period with an awful number of dots to get on the paper against deadlines but too many journeys overseas taking up too much time! I wish there were more people who had the courage to write music for their own school - & it's typical that it's in your care an art-design man & not a music specialist! If the 2 Fiddlers in my way then I'm very gratified. Since then I wrote an opera for primary children on the Cinderella story but changed quite a lot so that it's pointed & funny a short music-theatre piece for young primaries 'The Rainbow' & just now 'Songs of Hoy' for the school on this island involving all the kids who only have music instruction once a week from a specialist who comes by boat from Stromness weather permitting - quite a challenge. Indeed I'd be very pleased to see a copy of the new opera. Again thank you for taking time & trouble to write. Such letters mean a lot! ." 016949Gaston Serpette (1846-1904), compositeur, chef d'orchestre. Belle lettre. [395]
