186633982Eccleston St. S.W. London March 13th 1866. 1866. Good. - Over 39 words penned on a 7 inch high by 4-3/8 inch wide sheet of buff paper with an attached blank leaf. Michael Costa writes to arrange a meeting with the recipient: "On Thursday I am engaged in the morning but if you can come in the afternoon at 1/2 past three o'clock." He then closes with "Hoping your cold is better believe me truly yours" signed "M. Costa". Folded twice horizontally for mailing the letter is slightly soiled. Remnants of gray paper adhering to the right edge of the verso of the blank page would suggest that the letter was once mounted in an album. Good. <p>The Italian-born conductor and composer Michael Costa 1808-1884 studied in Naples with his father at the Real Collegia di Musica and later with Niccolo Antonio Zingarelli. Although most of his works disappeared into obscurity he composed a significant number of operas symphonies and cantatas. After a visit to Birmingham he settled in England. In 1830 working as a conductor at His Majesty's Theatre Costa was able to influence many changes there and subsequently at Covent Garden. He was admired by Meyerbeer and Verdi. Having conducted several orchestras he took on English citizenship and was subsequently knighted in 1869. Among those compositions which survived are his ballets "Kenilworth" "Une Heure a Naples" "Sir Huon" and "Alma". His operas "Malek Adhel" and "Don Carlos" were produced in Paris and London. A PRISTINE COPY OF THE FIRST AND ONLY EDITION OF THIS EXTREMELY EARLY MANUAL FOR RAILROAD CONDUCTORS AND ENGINEERS. 143 pp. Signed by author on verso of half-title (as with all copies). Printed on good wove paper. Name of former owner ("M. Picandet") stamped on front cover and half-title. 12mo. Original plain wraps. Uncut. Light wear to wraps. Internally fine and bright. Considering the tiny target audience of this book, surely very few copies were printed, and most of those were probably subject to heavy use. The survival of such a pristine copy is nothing short of remarkable.

Non dimenticando gli approdi raggiunti da Eckhart nelle altre opere, latine e tedesche, e facendo riferimento all'influsso sul pensiero di Niccolò Cusano, il testo mira a sondare la natura della divinità, l'origine dell'uomo e le modalità del rapporto tra l'ente situato e la sua prima sorgente all'interno della filosofia eckhartiana. La divinità, intesa come abisso e grazia, costituendo l'uomo secondo una dinamica di univocità dell'essere e analogia di attribuzione, crea un ente a cui è affidata la possibilità di confermare l'eccellenza della imago Dei. L'Abgeschiedenheit e la Gelassenheit rappresentano l'opera interiore in grado di conferire all'essere umano lo statuto divino, uno stato supremo dell'essere e del conoscere che può tradursi nelle opere dell'uomo e transitare lungo i sentieri della molteplicità.

Postcard of 14 x 9 cm with letterhead and no illustration. Monogram signature ‘RK’. In good condition lightly aged with slight smudging to a couple of words in one corner. Addressed to ‘Mr Philip Dossé. sic / Hansom Books. / Artillery Mansions. / 75 Victoria Street. / LONDON. S.W.1.’ After thanking him for his letter she expresses relief that his mother ‘did so well on the first round of treatment for cancer. I prayfor the next one.’ She thanks him for advertising her husband’s ‘next book. Yes. Jonathan Cape again. Yes. Diary 1970-75.’ She ends in the hope that ‘there will be a reason to come to London or I will never see my friends again but I love Ireland’. Incisione a bulino ( mm 217x135), datata 1515. La prova, monogrammata e datata, forte di un bell'effetto chiaroscurale, nell'unico stato conosciuto, è impressa su carta databile ai primi decenni del Cinquecento. L'opera, tratta da un disegno di Baccio Bandinelli, si documenta tra le prime opere dell'autore. Cleopatra con l'aspide in mano è raffigurata nuda, risalta su un drappo scuro che scende da un arco, sullo sfondo un villaggio gotico su un lago. Appoggia il piede destro su cubo con l'iscrizione "Bacio Fi/orenti/no/ (invenit)". Le opere di questo breve periodo fiorentino rivelano un graduale superamento dei modi veneti in favore di un più accentuato plasticismo, pienamente conseguito nella presente lastra che anticipa i risultati artistici del periodo romano. Esemplare privo di margini, antico restauro di 2mm visibile al verso dell'estremo angolo superiore bianco. Agostino de Musi detto Veneziano (1490 ca. – Roma, 1540 ca.) dopo un periodo trascorso a Firenze si trasferì a Roma, dove conobbe Marcantonio Raimondi che gli fu maestro (Baldinucci, 1686). Il De Musi che generalmente contrassegnò le sue stampe con il monogramma "A. V." (Agostino Veneziano), in quattro intagli firmò per esteso come "Agustino di Musi" (S. Margherita, B. 119; Il vecchio pastore, B. 409; Gli animali, B. 414; La Vergine dalla scimmia, B. VII, 42) e in un quinto in latino: "Augustinus venetus de Musis ..." (Gli scheletri, B. 424). La sua produzione incisoria - spesso di soggetti inusuali - fu assai vasta, soprattutto se rapportata al breve arco di tempo in cui fu realizzata, all'incirca tra il 1514 e il 1536. Ricevette la sua prima formazione artistica prendendo come modello Campagnola e Dürer. Insieme a Marco Dente da Ravenna, contribuì con grande abilità alla prima vera e propria impresa artistico-commerciale impegnata nella riproduzione di soggetti raffaelleschi. .
