Girolamo Casone, physician and professor of philosophy at the University of Pavia, is the author of the collection of poems here published, along with an introduction that recollects his musical career and his ties with the cultural milieu of Spanish Milan. The essay, therefore, also brings light on the personality of important figures of the political, military, and religious world of the time, and on many women who succeeded in imposing their own cultural and social relevance.Girolamo Casone, physician and professor of philosophy at the University of Pavia, is the author of the collection of poems here published, along with an introduction that recollects his musical career and his ties with the cultural milieu of Spanish Milan. Biblioteca dell'?Archivum Romanicum? Archival research allows us to establish that Laura Peperara, famous singer and harp player, was born in 1563. This eliminates Solerti?s hypothesis that she was Tasso?s second love interest at the time, as well as the receiver of a book of love poems. Consequently, it is possible to reconstruct Peperara?s artistic path from a different angle and reorganize an important part of Tasso?s lyrical production. A CD entitled ?Madrigali per Laura Peperara? accompanies the volume. 692 gr. vi-352 p.

The performance ?opera?, 400 years since its birth, in its numerous theoretical, composite, scenic, interpretative components: ideology and commission, analysis of particular aspects of poetry, form and representation, receptivity, academies and theatrical agencies, prototypes of professional singing. Details of careful examination dictated by the confrontation with that poetical, musical, spectacular ?invention? that identifies itself with one of the most historically proven supremacies for Italian culture. 359 gr. xviii-174 p.

This book explores the musical codices from the Dominican convents of Saint Agnes and Saint Mary Magdalen of Valdipietra in Bologna. There are about thirty large richly illuminated manuscripts produced between the 13th and 16th centuries, commissioned by noble Bolognese families. The catalogue describing the codices is preceded by an introduction that traces the provenance of these choir books and examines the connection between the new Gregorian chants created by the nuns and the worship of particular saints. 474 gr. x-216 p.
Starting from the Early Middle Ages this is the first systematic investigation of the 'Pueri cantus' in Italian cathedral schools of grammar and music which found favour with Pope Eugene IV between 1435 and 1446 boosting the constitution of new music chapels, often becoming the embryonic nucleus. 580 gr. 286 p.
