The scarce first edition Bauplastik a collection of work from distinguished German stonemason and sculptor Ernst Hottenroth edited by Karl Gorss and with a foreword from German-American impressionist Paul Schumann. Posthumously published by Baumgärtel in 1909.In quarter cloth with decorative paper boards. Contains all forty loosely inserted plates containing an illustrated catalogue of Hottenroth's impressive craftsmanship including statues statues archways and decorative pieces on stone doors and walls. Collated complete.Publisher's original advertisement to rear pastedown. Double introductory page loosely inserted.A highly respected stonemason and sculptor of his time Hottenroth was commissioned to work on landmarks such as the New Stables in Berlin the Central Theatre in Dresden and the neoclassical Reichstag building. The striking work is reminiscent of Gothic tales that sprung from the Medieval period. In quarter cloth with decorative paper boards. Externally smart with slight fading to the extremities and signs of edgewear with a small chip to top edge of front board. Rubbing to front joint with small split to head of spine. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine with a small chip to tail and to the extremities with a small chip to bottom extremity. Brown end papers are clean with the odd small handling mark. Internally leaves are detached from the boards. Plates are bright and clean with slight age toning heavier to the introductory double page. Good Baumgärtel hardcover
