Compositeur, claveciniste et auteur dramatique, Nicolas Racot de Grandval (1676-1753) rejoignit Dancourt à la Comédie-Française. Dans le même temps, il accompagnait, au clavecin, la plupart des divertissements et ballets donnés à Versailles. Auteur de nombreuses comédies, il composa également la musique de plusieurs pièces, notamment pour Dancourt et Marc-Antoine Legrand.
