Signed "Constance DeJong". The left edge of the paper is darkened & there is a light paper-clip mark to the top left corner with a small light stain just below the body of the letter. Very good. <p>DeJong writes to Gary Wilkie of Contexts in Seattle to ask if she could present her new work there as part of a tour that will take her to Portland Oregon. She encloses a photo and resume: "It's not very up to date in terms of the new work I'd be presenting or the recently completed book and opera I wrote with Philip Glass." A publicity sheet from Art Performances New York states: "Constance DeJong is one of the young post-modern writers who has made performance a natural extension of her work as a writer. By blending some of the traditional techniques of theatre - lighting movement music - performances extend her work beyond the written word into an almost tactile presence a context where the narrative can come to life. 1939ABE-1538494660313Royal Opera House Covent Garden 1939 EXTREMELY RARE! REX WHISTLER designed this glorious programme for the State Performance in Honour of The President of the French Republic and Madame Lebrun at the Royal Opera House March 22 1939. WHISTLER's cover design is an elaborate affair; the embossed card covers are ingeniously cut away in curves. It is fabulously decorated by Rex Whistler on the front and back. A gold cord with tassels forms the binding round the twelve folded pages. Dancers included Margot Fonteyn Robert Helpmann William Chappell Frank Staff and Frederick Ashton. Sir Thomas Beecham conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a great collectable example of ephemera in its own right but it is of especial value for admirers of Rex Whistler. Soft cover. Fine. Royal Opera House Covent Garden paperback
22363Marchetti's autograph on letterhead of the R. Accademia di S. Cecilia 'Liceo Musicale'. Rome 14 September 1892. Villari's autograph on reverse of leaf dated from Florence 2 November 1892. 1p 12mo. Leaf of lightly-browned and creased aged paper with closed tears to one edge. The two men are clearly writing in response to requests for autographs. Marchetti has written out four bars – slightly affected at end by closed tear – from what he states is 'Ruy Blas Preludio'. Beneath this he signs in a firm attractive hand 'F Marchetti'. At the head he dates: 'Roma 14 9bre 92'. On the reverse Villari has written out neatly an eight-line comment on 'Chi cessa d'essere bimbo prima del tempo' losing 'la gaiezza l'innocenza la spontaneità infantile' and all the qualities 'necessari all'uomo'. Beneath the quotation he signs in another attractive hand 'Pasquale Villari Firenze 2 Nov. 92'. Marchetti's autograph on letterhead of the R. Accademia di S. Cecilia ('Liceo Musicale').
