Book is in excellent condition with creaseless covers and spine, one slightly bumped lower corner and very light shelf wear are only flaws, otherwise as new. Il volume si propone come una narrazione e, insieme, un inquadramento critico delle principali vicende che hanno caratterizzato l'opera italiana nei primi due secoli della sua storia: dalla nascita nelle corti del Centro-Nord della penisola all'istituzionalizzazione nei teatri impresariali di Venezia, dai tentativi di riforma ispirati al razionalismo classicista alle suggestioni europee a ridosso degli eventi rivoluzionari di une Settecento. Nell'affrontare questi snodi storici l'autrice analizza in particolare i fattori di cambiamento del sistema operistico, ossia le trasformazioni che subiscono le strutture drammatico-musical-sceniche nel loro rapporto dialettico con i fermenti culturali, i contesti produttivi, le dinamiche socio-politiche. In quest'ottica, si sofferma sulle strategie compositive degli autori, illuminate grazie allo scandaglio delle caratteristiche stilistico-formali di alcune opere esemplari. Ciò che ne emerge è il vivace affresco di un fenomeno d'arte che fin dalla sua nascita è stato in grado di sfidare, e a volte di vincere, tanto il teatro di parola quanto la letteratura.
br. Qual è la specificità dell'opera italiana? Come è costruita e come comunica? Come si mette in scena oggi un'opera del passato? Come si può studiare uno spettacolo che appare così plurimo e complesso? Nel rispondere a tali interrogativi, il libro offre una panoramica dei principali aspetti e problemi connessi a questo particolare genere di teatro interamente cantato: analizzale singole componenti in gioco (libretto, partitura, messinscena) e la loro interazione, soffermandosi sulla molteplicità di funzioni che la musica assolve nello spettacolo operistico.
