202424165New York City NY: HarperCollins Publishers 2024. First Edition. First Printing. Hardcover. As New/As New Dust Jacket. New York City NY: HarperCollins Publishers 2024. Hardcover. As New/As New. First Edition/First Printing. 220 pages. Rare Pedro Almodovar collectible set. A pristine publisher's "Autographed Copy" of "The Last Dream" with a pristine 8 X 10 inch color portrait of the artist both signed by Pedro Almodovar. Both the Cover and Solo portraits come from the same photo-session taken by Rafael Pavarotti. The author/filmmaker's collection of prose pieces. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Pedro Almodovar's "El Ultimo Sueno" in a felicitous English translation by Frank Wynne who has also contributed an Introductory Essay. From one of the world's most beloved culture heroes here are twelve never-before-published short stories and essays: Vintage early Almodovar as well as pieces from his later period underlining both their continuity and discontinuity. "Gleefully subverts the sacred as a matter of course. Populated by religious figures sex workers pop-culture icons a gentle vampire and a man who ages in reverse these tales written over five decades are largely of a piece with Almodovar's exuberant genre-defying cinema" The New Yorker Magazine . That is to say they are aligned with Pedro Almodovar's universally beloved films which are all ultimately - "the last dream" - about desire: What is bliss what is a man or woman willing even if unable to do to find love passion and true happiness. Although he is best-known as a film director Pedro Almodovar's longing by his own admission has always been to be recognized as a great "canonical" writer and his films which are written by him are strewn with literary inspirations and allusions. An absolute "must-have" collectible not just memorabilia set for Pedro Almodovar collectors. This Autographed Copy is magnificently signed in black pen-marker across the title page by Pedro Almodovar. It is signed directly on the page itself not on a tipped-in page. It is the single most beautiful signature by him we have ever seen. It also comes with an 8 X 10 inch color print of his pensive portrait taken by Rafael Pavarotti also very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on recto by the artist. This title is a great collection. As far as we know this is the only such signed copy with Signed Portrait of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing American available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean crisp and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws or are in subsequent printing. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed set thus. One of the greatest filmmaker/writers of our time. A fine collectible set. . ISBN 0063349760. HarperCollins Publishers hardcover

2008018040Milan: Fondazione FMR Franco Maria Ricci / Marilena Ferrari. 2008. Book. Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Fine in fine matching patterned slipcase. A spectacular copy of this lavish book which was published a year following the death of opera legend Luciano Pavarotti and which celebrates the life of the great tenor. The title was chosen because Giacomo Puccini's "La Boheme" was his public debut in 1961 and because it is the opera for which in role as "Rodolfo" he is best known. The book exploits every facet of Pavarotti's life and the opera with beautifully produced high quality tipped in images throughout. The text is by Michele Girardi with additional testimonies by conductor Claudia Abbado soprano Renata Scotto and director Franco Zefferelli. One of only one thousand copies hand numbered in ink on the colophon at the rear of the book. The book was never offered for sale to the public and copies were intended only for distribution to public institutions opera houses and prestigious and renowned libraries throughout the world and is rare thus. An incredible book and a beautiful volume. Fondazione FMR (Franco Maria Ricci) / Marilena Ferrari. Hardcover
