1933521Chicago: H. M. Gousha 1933. 23 1/4 x 17 1/2 inches. Very good condition. This is a highly decorative Depression Era map of the United States. The design on the front cover is a modest view of getting gas at the pump. A uniformed attendant puts the gas in the back of the sedan. The verso of the map is filled with panels of attractive people and the friendly servers of Gulf gasoline clearly marked on the pumps. There is a lubrication chart that lists the different automobile makes in 1933. What an expanded selection with names like Auburn Cadillac Cord Durant Hupmobile Isotta-Fraschini Locomobile Pierce-Arrow Stutz and Willys among many others. There ia also a transcontinental mileage chart. This is a fun piece highlights by a superb graphic presentation of the map of the United States. H. M. Gousha unknown

Fine.</p><p>The American oil tycoon entrepreneur and philanthropist Armand Hammer 1898-1990 was the son of a Russian-born American communist and activist. He studied medicine and made his first fortune in pharmaceuticals and whiskey before taking over the failing Occidental Petroleum company in 1956. Known for his "citizen diplomacy" his close ties to the Soviet Union helped him cultivate friends and associates the world over. Hammer was also known for his art collection and support of artistic institutions.</p>

The Imperial Oil images are in color and printed onto heavy card with their copyright in both English and French. Image w. the Royals & Churchill standing together also has a tipped-on Christmas greeting from Imperial mounted at bottom edge verso and is printed on decorative speckled paper. We do not know the significance of the red abbreviated moniker "DILL'S S.S.S." or what it stands for. Larger image measures 10-3/4 inches tall x 8-1/2 inches wide ; smaller image is 10 inches tall x 7-1/4 inches wide. Both are toned verso else fine. The "Man of Destiny" image is an unusual promotional piece by the Canadian branch of an international industrial company and utilizing possibly an image of Churchill in his office in 1945 while quoting in part some of his famous 1940 speech "I have nothing to offer but blood toil tears and sweat." Image is printed on light card and measures 11-1/4 inches tall x 8-5/8 inches wide is in VG condition w. light wear and a crease at bottom left corner.
