Zalimo se na invazivnu vladu a ipak se nasi pravni obrazovni finansijski socijalni kulturni i legislativni sistemi neprestano pogorsavaju. Dok mnogi ove probleme posmatraju odvojeno Sol pokazuje da su oni rezultat slepe vere u vrednosti razuma. Nase racionalne elite su tokom poslednjih 400 godina postepeno uvodile reforme u svakoj sferi drustvenog zivota ali Sol pokazuje da su one bile odgovorne i za najvece nevolje i nasilje istog tog perioda. Taj paradoks nastaje iz jednostavne istine koju nase elite poricu: daleko od toga da je moralna snaga razum nije vise od administrativne tehnokratske metode. Ovo poricanje je pomoglo da se moderni zapadni svet izmetne u nepreglednu neshvatljivu masineriju koja nema svoj smer i kojom upravljaju eksperti orijentisani na proces Volterovi izrodi ciji je kult naucnog menadzmenta lisen i smisla i moralnosti. Bilo u politici umetnosti biznisu vojsci zabavi nauci finansijama novinarstvu knjizevnoj kritici ili u akademskoj zajednici ti eksperti dele ista shvatanja i metode. Rezultat svega toga je civilizacija ogromne tehnoloske moci ciji su narodi sve vise iskljuceni iz procesa donosenja odluka sve vise borave u svetu iluzija i s osecajem obespravljenosti i frustriranosti.
